Edna Slivka Hoffinger of Ringgold died Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at an area hospital. She was 88.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty wonderful years of marriage, Warren William Hoffinger.
Survivors include three grateful grandchildren, Leslie (Alayne), Jeffrey (Karen) and Renee (Dennis); six grandchildren, Rab, Jessica, David, Marah, Yosef and Meira; seven great grandchildren, Richard, Isiah, Kyrus, Elias, Otia, Tyree and Zacheus; sister, Harriet; sisters-in-law, Grace and Lorraine; many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends. She brought joy and love to many lives and is remembered with love.

Mary Ann Tatham Jackson, 36, Chattanooga
Mary Ann Tatham Jackson of Chattanooga, Tenn., died Thursday April 14, 2011. She was 36.
She liked to be called Carrie and never had a harsh word for anyone. Mary loved her family and friends, but she loved her children more than anything. There is nothing she would not do to help others if she could. She was very creative enjoying arts and crafts and drawing, and she also shared a love of cars with her father, Michael.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Paul C. and Melvina Tatham.
Survivors include her father and stepmother, Michael and Debbie Tatham; daughter, Ronda Axmacher; sons, Michael Axmacher and Daniel Anderson, and uncle, David Tatham, all of Chattanooga, Tenn.

Richard H. “Andy” Anderson Sr. of Rossville, died Thursday, April 14, 2011, in a local hospital surrounded by his family. He was 85.
Andy was a lifelong resident of Rossville and veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church where he taught the young people’s Sunday school class for 33 years.
Andy was preceded in death by parents John and Caroline Anderson, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Franklin “Sonny” D. Lewis of Ringgold died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, in a local hospital. He was 74.
He was a lifelong resident of the north Georgia area and was a member of Bibleway Baptist Church. Sonny was the owner of Boynton Auto Cleanup shop for 40 years and worked with H&L Cleaners in Ringgold and Rossville.
He was preceded in death by his two wives, Roberta Emma Palmer Lewis and Ruby Forrester Lewis, and a son, Mark Lewis.

George “Elgie” Templeton of Rock Spring died Sunday, April 10, 2011. He was 62.
George was employed with Economy Honda of Chattanooga for more than 30 years. He was an avid outdoor sportsman and made many friends.
He was preceded in death by parents, Elgin and Maybelle Templeton, and three brothers, Charles, Dewey and Darrrell Templeton.

Mary Lou Hickman of East Ridge, Tenn., died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at her residence. She was 91.
She was a member of Cloud Springs Baptist Church and had been a former member of Avondale Baptist Church for 50 years. Mrs. Hickman was the widow of the late Dwight Holmes Hickman.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda (Paul) Brown of East Ridge, Tenn., and LaRenda (Richard) Hampton of Ft. Donald Junior Cook, 83, Chattanooga, Tenn.
Donald Junior Cook of Chattanooga, Tenn., died Saturday, April 9, 2011. He was 83.
He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area and was of the Baptist faith. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and had retired from Georgia-Pacific as a truck driver in 1992 after more than 20 years of service. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, and was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mac and Georgia Cook; stepson, Randy Roberson; sister, Mildred Cook, and brother, John Alvin Cook.
Survivors include his loving wife of more than 53 years, Peggy Cook of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie (Susie) Cook of Harrison, Tenn., and Mike (Sonya) Cook of East Ridge, Tenn.; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie (James) Johnson of Soddy-Daisy, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nephews and one niece.

She was a native of Chicago, Ill., and had lived the past 40 years in the Chattanooga area. She was of the Baptist faith, and she worked for Chattanooga State Community College in continuing education as a test proctor for five years. Her passions in life were her family and friends, whom she enjoyed spending time with and going on vacation. She blessed people’s lives with her singing, and she always extended a helping hand to whoever was in need.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Wise.

She was born to the late Bob and Sara Lindsay Leigh in Dalton on Aug. 23, 1943. She worked as a draftsman and was continuing her education at the time of her passing.

Mr. Smith was a native and lifelong resident of Georgia and was employed for many years with Seaborn Refrigeration. He was also an excellent carpenter, and enjoyed rebuilding engines, camping and being in the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Franklin Smith Sr., and Ora Thankful Born Smith; grandson, Brent Lynn Jackson, and sister, Millie Jane Smith Broome.

A lifelong resident of the north Georgia area, he was a former employee of Benny Jackson Ford, where he worked for over 10 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Owen and Ruth Ann Cooper Feagans, and nephew, Wilburn Whaley Jr.

Edith V. Bryson Headrick of Ringgold died Tuesday April 5, 2011, while residing at NHC of Ft. Oglethorpe. She was 92.
A lifelong resident of the Catoosa County area, she was an active member of New Bethel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.T. Headrick; son, Kendall Headrick; daughter, Shelby Headrick; parents, Frank J. and Mary Brown Bryson; sisters, Louise O’Donald, Stella Chambers, Florence Dunson, Rena Helton and Virginia Jo Bryant, and brothers, John L., James, Frank Jr., and Ralph Bryson.

Roger Fawn Hale Sr., 89, Rossville
Roger Fawn Hale Sr.of Rossville died Monday, April 4, 2011. He was 89.
He had lived in the Rossville area for most of his life and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lakeview. He was an Army veteran, having served during World War II, and was previously employed with the Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant as well as several other government agencies for more than 38 years. He was a member and past master of the Rossville Masonic Lodge No. 397 and a past district deputy to the grand master for the 7th Masonic District grand lodge of Georgia, F&AM. He received his 50 year Grand Lodge award in 2005 and was also a member and past worthy patron of Pocahontas Chapter No. 165 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Robert “Bob” Claude Weir, 64, Ringgold
Robert “Bob” Claude Weir of Ringgold died Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at a local healthcare facility. He was 64.
Robert was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga and north Georgia area and was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Weir was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in the Vietnam era, and was a member of the American Legion Post 95, where he served in the honor guard. He was a graduate of UTC, receiving his B.S. in electrical engineering. Robert retired from EPB after 32 years. He played fast-pitch softball for many years and enjoyed being an official for TSSAA football for 25 years. Recently Robert worked part-time at Sigma Security.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Warner and Doris Weir, and brother, John Weir.

Billy Jack Walker of Chickamauga died Sunday April 3, 2011, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was 79.
He was a resident of Chickamauga, veteran of the U.S. Army and avid fan of the University of Alabama. Mr. Walker was a member of Parkway Baptist Temple. He retired from Combustion Engineering after 35 years, and had been president of the Boilermakers Union. Billy was a member of the Cleveland, Tenn., Elks Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Peggy Joyce Walker, and son, Jody Walker.

James W. “Red” Carson of Rossville died Saturday, April 2, 2011. He was 67.
He retired from Combustion Engineering after 30 years of service as a welder and was of the Church of Christ faith. All whom knew him will miss a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and good friend to all. Red was a faithful giver to children’s charities.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willard Carson, and sister, Louise Farrar.

Frances Campbell of Chickamauga died April 1, 2011. She was 86.
She was born to the late Bill and Myrtle Madaris on August 23, 1924 in Chattanooga, Tenn. Mrs. Campbell was a member of Garrett’s Chapel Baptist Church; she retired from Crystal Springs Bleachery after 25 years of service, and she enjoyed gardening.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Stephen Campbell; brothers, Frank and Aubrey Madaris, and sister, Louise Talley.

Harry Alton Connelly of Ringgold died peacefully Friday, April 1, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was 68.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and former police officer in Hialeah, Fla. Harry retired from Delta Airlines after 30 years of service and attended Graysville United Methodist Church. His favorite vacation destination was Disney World, where a kid can be a kid. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Eugene Connelly and Hazel Williams Connelly, and his brother, Patrick Connelly.
Survivors include his high school sweetheart and his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Linda Nelson Connelly; son, Michael E. Connelly of Smyrna; daughter, Deborah Connelly Thornton of Dallas; six grandchildren, Ariel, Amber, Autumn, Joey, Linda and Zachary, and several nieces and nephews.

Frank A. Roden Sr., of LaFayette died Saturday, April 2, 2011. He was 73.
Frank served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1961, worked at the Chattanooga-based Ernest Holmes Wrecker Company for 18 years, and retired from Walker County School System after 10 years of service. He and his wife of 54 years, Patsy Jean Roden, had lived in LaFayette for the last 22 years.

Larue Haws Rhyne
Larue Haws Rhyne died March 30, 2011, at her home on her farm.
She was born Sept. 15, 1927, to David Macoo and Glenna B. Haws in Colonal Juarez, Mexico, where she met and married her sweetheart, Bill Rhyne, while he was stationed there during World War II. They moved to Ringgold in the Keith community in 1965. She enjoyed nature, hiking, the woods, swimming in the lake and most of all she loved to work with her tractor.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and her faith was an important part of her life. She was a great source of encouragememt to all of those around her, always pushing them to do more, work harder, be stronger and endure. She is a living legacy to her family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Johnny Edwards; her son and daughter-in-law, Dallas and Judy Rhyne; her daughter, Kyra Rhyne; her daughter and son-in-law, Jovanna and Bob Gurley; 12 grandchildren, Crystal, Tiffany, Derek, Kimberly, Zachary, Sarah, Hannah, Joshua, Megan, Sydney, Will and Greyson; and 14 great-grandchildren, Joseph, Brynne, Embrie, Savannah, Emily, Madelyn, Polo, Gabriel, Henry, Isabelle, Aaron, Judianne, Scarlett, and Charli.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Rhyne; son, Michael Shane Rhyne, and great-grandson, Gareth Udall.

Sidney Eugene O’Dell of Fort Oglethorpe died Wednesday, March 30, 2011. He was 85.
He was born in Chattanooga to the late Major Grant and Ruby Elizabeth O’Dell.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Pearl O’Dell.
Sid served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired from Crane Company in Chattanooga after 43 years of service. He was a member of the VFW Post 3679 and was of the Baptist faith.
