Anderson Darnell Baker of LaFayette died Thursday, March 10, 2011. He was 85.
He was born to the late Robert and Luda Dunwoody Baker on March 18, 1925. Mr. Baker was a member of Corinth Baptist Church, had retired from Barwick Mills, loved to play the fiddle and guitar and enjoyed gardening and his 1966 Chevelle.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert A. Baker Jr., and sister, Dorothy Baker Dunlap.
Survivors include his sister, Glenna Thomas Bailey and husband Jim, both of LaFayette; brother, Artie “T-Boy” Baker of LaFayette; 10 nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and -nephews.
Funeral services: Sunday, March 13, at 2:30 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church with R.D. “Wayne” Wallin and John Sheppard officiating. Burial: Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. Claymon Harley Burgess of LaFayette died Sunday, March 13, 2011. He was 85.
To some Claymon was known as the Watermelon man and the Pecan man.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine “Cricket” Massey Burgess; son, Donald Ray Burgess, and grandfather, Jennifer Jackson.

Laurie Ann Elmore of Chattanooga died Saturday, March 12, 2011, at her residence. She was 55.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Chattanooga, was a member of First Centenary United Methodist Church and had worked at Forest Hills Cemetery for eighteen years. Laurie was preceded in death by her father, Walter S. Pryor.

Glenn Miller “Pap” Fowler of Ringgold died Saturday, March 12, 2011. He was 83.
He was born in Resaca and had lived there for most of his life before moving to Catoosa County in 1977. He had worked as a carpenter for most of his life and was an Army veteran, having served two years in Japan. He was a member of Westside Missionary Baptist Church in Ringgold and enjoyed gardening, baking, current events, politics and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walt and Lucy Fowler; three brothers, Clarence, CW and Lewis Fowler, and two sisters, Winnie Fowler Greeson and Daisy Fowler Farriba.
Survivors include his loving wife of more than 40 years, Edna Fowler; six stepchildren and spouses, Donald McAllister, Johnny (Betty) McAllister, Jerry McAllister, Wanda (Jimmy) Dean, Jack (Candy) McAllister and Jane (Shane) Hood, all of Ringgold; brother and sister-in-law, Jack Berry (Marolyn) Fowler of Calhoun; sister-in-law, Geroldine Fowler; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Lucy Green “Tootsie” Roberts of Ringgold died on Monday, March 14, 2011. She was 77.
She was a lifetime member of the Rossville 1st Church of the Nazarene, where she taught Sunday school, teaching various classes. She served as Sunday school superintendent and was involved in various other activities at the church. She was an avid Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs fan. Tootsie was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reece Roberts; brother, J.D. “Doc” Green, and sisters, Alma G. Williams and Frankie G. Reid.
Survivors include her son, Greg Roberts of Ringgold; daughter, Susan (Rick) Morton of Ringgold; grandsons, Tyler (Janel) Morton, Kyle Morton and Ryley Morton; great-grandson, Chance Morton; brother, H. He touched so many lives and will surely be missed by all of his family and friends.

James Emmett Wilbanks of LaFayette died Sunday, March 13, 2011. He was 93.
He was a member and deacon of Second Baptist Church of LaFayette. He was a member of Crawfish Springs Lodge of Chickamauga. He was a fox hunter for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Ada Harris Wilbanks; sisters, Effie Smith, Bessie Weaver, Amy Hankins, Irene Crane and Jennie Wilhoite, and brothers, Willie, Grady, Jake, Arthur and Raymond Wilbanks.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Daisy Murphy Wilbanks of LaFayette; sister, Pluma “Pet” Tapp of Chickamauga; his caregiver for the last six years, Judy Howard, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Judy Howard, who has given James and Daisy the help they needed in order to be able to stay in their own home during their golden years. She has gone above and beyond, doing things for the family that they don’t have to ask her to do. She has helped winterize the tractor, wrapped outdoor faucets during the cold months, bringing meals over and taking Daisy out to get her hair don at least once a week. She has been a God-sent blessing and has allowed the couple to enjoy their last days together “til death do us part.”

Jack M. Draper, 81, Ringgold
Jack M. Draper of Ringgold died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at a local healthcare facility. He was 81.
Jack was a resident of the Chattanooga and north Georgia area for over 60 years and a member of Newnan Springs United Methodist Church. He joined the Marines at age 16, served three years, then reenlisted with the Army, serving in the 82nd Airborne Pathfinders. Jack was a member of the VFW 4848, American Legion Post 95, and the Marine Corps League.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Lynn Klajda.

Leroy was a member of the Second Baptist Church of LaFayette for 57 years. He was a deacon and Sunday school teacher there for 25 years.

George Wilson of LaFayette died Thursday, March 10, 2011. He was 78.
He never met a stranger. He always met everyone with a handshake and a smile. A lifelong resident of LaFayette, he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Hale during the Korean War. He owned Wilson Service Station in LaFayette for 38 years. He was a member and deacon of Oakwood Baptist Church and most recently attended LaFayette Presbyterian Church. He served as a minister of music for 35 years at several churches, including Walnut Grove Baptist Church, Evangelical Methodist Church, Noble Fellowship and Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was a bailiff for the Walker County sheriff’s office for 14 years and a member of the LaFayette Optimist Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Mary Headrick Wilson, and sisters Mary Frances Gilreath and Sarah Wilson.
Survivors include by his loving wife of 56 years, Ann Wilson; two sons, Steve (Sandy) Wilson and Dale (Cheryl) Wilson of LaFayette; five grandchildren, Adam Wilson of Chickamauga, Ryan Wilson of Rossville, Grady Wilson, Katie Wilson and Mary Wilson, all of LaFayette; a brother, Charles Everett (Herb) Wilson of Flintstone, and an aunt, Addie Belle Roberts of Hephzibah.

James Hershell Goforth of Fort Oglethorpe died Wednesday, March 9, 2011, with family at his side. He was 78.
He was a Korean War veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hershell and Fannie Mae Goforth, and son, James R. Goforth.

She had lived in the north Georgia area for most of her life and was of the Baptist faith. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Donald Watts and stepfather, James William Watts.

William Burton Perry, 59
William Burton Perry died Monday, March 7, 2011. He was 59.
He was an active member of Central Baptist Church in Hixson, Tenn., until his illness prevented his attending. He was an electrician at TVA Sequoyah for 22 years and at Lawson Electric as an auto-cad electrical estimator. He was a member of the IBEW Local 715 and a member of Signal Mountain Lodge #758. If the quality of a man’s life can be measured by the depth and number of one’s life roles, then Burton lived life to its fullest as a son, husband, spiritual leader, dad, stepdad, brother, pawpaw, friend and a man after God’s own heart. On Monday night, he left these roles behind and entered into the presence of the Lord whom he loved and served.
He was preceded in death by parents, Rev. Frank and Etta Perry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Cora Price, and son, Billy Price.

Willie Mae “Billie” Hambley, 80, Lookout Valley
Willie Mae “Billie” Hambley, 80, of Lookout Valley died Monday, March 7, 2011, following a lengthy illness. She was 80.
Mrs. Hambley had been a lifelong resident of Lookout Valley and was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir until her illness. She was a member of the Lookout Valley Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as past matron. She actively held offices as well as grand representative, grand Instructor and on several committees for the grand chapter of the Tennessee Order of Eastern Star, where she made many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by parents, Mattie Mae and William Dunn, and brothers, James and George Dunn.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, John E. Hambley; daughter, Linda (Tony) Fortner of Lookout Valley; grandchildren, Kelly (Doug) Mitchell, Barron (Aimee) Fortner and Caleb (Angela) Fortner; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Jo Ann McNabb of Jasper, Tenn., and Mary (Bill) Duran of Chickamauga; brother, Roy (Donna) Dunn of Jasper, Tenn., and several nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart.

Curtis Haynes Hood died February 16, 2011, in Tucson, Ariz. He was 43.
He loved music and art, and won many awards with his artwork.

Jeremy Todd Hartline of LaFayette died Monday, March 7, 2011, at his residence. He was 33.
Mr. Hartline was born April 2, 1977, in Chattanooga, Tenn., the son of the late William Henry Hartline Jr. and Frances Elaine Stewart Hartline. He was a member of Woodstation United Methodist Church.

Herman Harold Hilburn, 88, Chattanooga, Tenn.
Herman Harold Hilburn of Chattanooga, Tenn., died March 5, 2011, at his residence. He was 88.
He was born on Sept. 18, 1922, to the late Katherine Stanfield Hilburn Baker and William Jutson Hilburn in LaFayette. He moved to Chattanooga when he was two years old and was educated in the Chattanooga city school system. Mr. Hilburn married his loving wife, Norma Evelyn McDaniel Hilburn, Dec. 4, 1942. They were married for 60 years. He was a U. S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II on the USS Braxton and the USS Ringgold in the Pacific Campaign, having received several medals and attaining the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class.
He was a member of East Ridge Baptist Church and the Chapel class. He retired in 1982 from C.F. Industries as a maintenance supervisor with over 15 years of service. His passions in life were his church, family and country. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling and exercise class.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Norma Evelyn McDaniel Hilburn, and two brothers, Gene Hilburn of Rome and Benny Hilburn of Woodstock.
Survivors include his wonderful daughter and son-in-law, Jeannie and Chris Taylor of Rome; one granddaughter, Lara Katherine Taylor Osborne of Rome; one niece, Julia Dent of Rome; two nephews, Jeff Hilburn of Woodstock and Bill Hilburn of Cartersville, and several great nieces and nephews.

Donald Taylor Ryder died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at his residence.
Born in Towanda, Pa., in 1930, Don graduated from Girard College in Philadelphia, Pa., in 1947. Afterward he served in the U.S. Air Force for four years during the Korean War. Don resided in northern Virginia for 33 years. He retired in 1989 from Unysis (formerly the Burroughs Corportation) after 37 years as an electronics engineer. In 2001, he relocated to LaFayette. He was an avid reader, fisherman and bowler. He attended First Baptist Church of LaFayette.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Bettye Clark Ryder; daughter, Donna (Raymond) Ryder Register; grandchildren, Raymond Forest Register III, Kelly (Eric) Elizabeth Fitzpatrick and Richard Taylor Register; brother, John Thomas Ryder of Keene, Texas, and his nieces and nephews.

Charlotte Ann Brooks Brock of Fort Oglethorpe died Thursday, March 3, 2011, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was 73.
She was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., Oct. 9, 1937, to the late James and Myrtle Smith Brooks. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church and she enjoyed camping.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Joe Brooks, and special friend and cousin, Mary Ella Walker.

Fred Garland Shady Valley, Tenn./Ringgold
Fred Garland, of Shady Valley, Tenn., and Ringgold died Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Born to Catherine and Jim Garland in 1916, Mr. Garland was the last of 10 siblings. He had two brothers and seven sisters. A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Mr. Garland was also a master mason. He returned to Shady Valley in the early 1950s to run the family farm when his father’s health declined. After moving to Ringgold in 1958, he ran a successful dairy and cattle farm well into his 80s. Mr. Garland was also an educator, having taught in Virginia and later at Boynton Elementary School in Ringgold, where he was also the girls' basketball coach, for 16 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Queen Pennington Garland.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Izetta Garland of Shady Valley; four sons, Fred W. Garland Jr. of Ringgold, Tom (Laura) Garland of Wedowee, Ala., Bill Garland of Nashville, Tenn., and Lawton Garland (Gwenda) of Greenville, S.C.; six grandchildren, Jeff Garland of Ringgold, James “Bo” Garland (Sarah) of Greenville, S.C., Kent Garland of Salt Lake City, Utah, Matt (Erine) Garland of New Bedford, Mass., John Garland of Carrollton, and Sharon Garland of Carrollton; three great-grandchildren, Lauren and James B. Curtis L. Gravely, 88
Rev. Curtis L. Gravely died March 3, 2011. He was 88.
Rev. Gravely was an ordained minister for over 65 years and served many churches in the Tennessee and north Georgia area. Rev. Gravely began his ministry as a missions pastor for Woodland Park Baptist Church. He later pastored Elizabeth Terrace Baptist Church, Chattanooga Valley Baptist Church, South Daisy Baptist Church, Jones Memorial Baptist Church, Fairview Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Cohutta, Dalton Baptist Tabernacle and Crossroads Baptist Church. His ministry continued after his retirement by visiting and loving the members of Morris Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Gravely was also blessed with a wonderful voice, which he used to share the gospel of Christ in song, singing at local group meetings and churches. He also sang at the Tennessee State Baptist Convention and several times at the Tennessee Baptist Seniors Convention. He held membership with the masons and the Operating Engineers Local 917.
He was the son of the late F.O. and Lura Gravely, and was also preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, the love of his life, Edna Wynn Gravely, and sisters, Mary Pearl Baker and Frances Wingfield.
Survivors include his son, Curtis L. (Carol) Gravely Jr.; two granddaughters, Ginger (Chuck) Bacha and Jeanna (David) Vaughn; five great-grandchildren, Kurt and Faith Bacha and Emily, Natalie and Travis Vaughn, all of Ringgold; one sister, Georgia Winn of Philadelphia, Pa.; one brother, Ralph Gravely of Roanoke, Va., and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Daugherty, and sisters, Betsey Sizemore, Mary Osteen, Lilly Sizemore and Margaret Weaver.

Cornie McCarson Cook of Rossville died Thursday, March 3, 2011. She was 90.
She was a native of Chattanooga and had lived in Rossville for over 50 years. She was a member of the St. Elmo Church of Christ and in the 1960’s she sold home goods for L.B. Price Co. Her passions in life were her family, the right to vote, playing music and writing. Her motto in life was, “to do that which is right and stand up for truth and justice.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Larkin Cook, Sr.; son Jesse Larkin Cook Jr.; parents, Ernest G. McCarson Sr. and Mary Shelby McCarson; one brother; and five sisters.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Claiborne Carver, and brothers, Presley Benton Carver, Ottis Raymond Carver and Aaron B. Carver.
Mr. Carver was a member of Union Camp Baptist Church in LaFayette. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. He had retired from Kraft Foods as a maintenance supervisor.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Warren Moorhead of LaFayette; sisters, Manervie Louise Carver Gregory, Verdie E. Carver Higgins, Hazel Ruth Carver Goud, Dorothy Fay Carver Adason and A.V. Carver Wilmore; grandson, Timothy W. Moorhead; great-grandchildren, Georgia, Claire and Noelle Moorhead of Knoxville, Tenn., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service: Saturday, March 5, at 11 a.m. with service conducted by Rev. Brad Carver from Anderson and Son Funeral Home, LaFayette, Tenn. Ione Vivian Simpson, 87, Chattanooga, Tenn.
Ione Vivian Simpson of Chattanooga, Tenn., died Wednesday, March 2, 2011, in a local health care facility. She was 87.
She was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and was a member of East Ridge Baptist Church.
Mrs. Simpson was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Ross Simpson.
Survivors include two daughters, Renee Weitz and Teena Massey, both of Chattanooga; two grandchildren, Michael Massey and Kelli Flood, and one great-granddaughter, Vivienne Flood.

William “Bud” Boss, 81, Rock Spring
Rev. William “Bud” Boss of Rock Spring died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, and went home to be with the Lord and his precious son, Rick, after a very lengthy illness. He was 81.
Rev. Boss was a well-known minister, having pastored several churches in north Georgia. The last two were Elizabeth Baptist in Marietta, and Northside Baptist in Roswell, where a state-of-the-art family life center was built and named for him and a bronze portrait plaque of him and his wife, Jewel, was placed in the foyer. The church also bestowed the honor of Pastor Emeritus on Rev. Boss in 2002. Roswell mayor W. L. Mabry made a proclamation to be recorded in the City of Roswell records to declare January 3, 1993 as William “Bud” Boss Day, and Senator Johnny Isakson presented Rev. Boss with a flag which was flown over the U. S. Capitol.
Many other honors were given through his years of ministry, but the most important thing in his life was being about his Heavenly Father’s business. He loved the Lord with all his heart, soul, mind and strength (Mark 12:29-30). God blessed him with a photographic memory and his love for studying the Bible gave him the ability to memorize hundreds of chapters and verses.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ricky, his parents and his brother, Richard.
Survivors include his loving wife, Jewel; sister, O’Tilla (Harold) Scoggins and four grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Dr. William Horton and the staff of Hutcheson Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care during this difficult time, and George Bartlett, caregiver and special friend.

Rebecca Lynn Fletcher of LaFayette died Monday, Feb. 28, 2011. She was 49.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dot Fletcher, and sister, Kay Dyess.
Survivors include her aunt, Charlotte Lively of LaFayette, and nephew, Nichols Blivens of Cleveland.

William “Billy” Tasman Womack, 59, Ringgold
Coach William “Billy” Tasman Womack, also known as Socky, of Ringgold died Feb. 28, 2011, at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was 59.
He was born on July 12, 1951, in Chattanooga, Tenn. Coach Womack worked and coached in the Catoosa County school system for more than 25 years. When he retired from coaching, he left Ringgold High School baseball with 376 wins, seven regional coach of the year awards, six regional championships and 12 state finishes. Coach Womack was inducted into the Georgia High School Dugout Hall of Fame Jan. 20, 2006. The Ringgold High School baseball field is named “Bill Womack Field” in honor of all his hard work and dedication to the many teams he coached.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W. R. and Marjorie Womack of Ft. Oglethorpe, and his niece, Gina Womack-Santana.
Survivors include his wife, Bennette Grant Womack; son, Tas (Brandi) Womack; daughter, Jamie (Bill) Womack Cole; granddaughters, Mia and Millie Womack and another grandchild expected in September; brother, Douglas Womack; niece Angela Womack, and several nieces and nephews, Jaylen Pickett, Zachary Barfield, Zhane Johnson and Anabella Santana.

Crystal Marie Barnes Jackson, 70, Tunnel Hill
Crystal Marie Barnes Jackson of Tunnel Hill died Thursday Feb. 24, 2011, at her residence. She was 70.
A native of Rockwood, Tenn., she had lived in the north Georgia area for over 45 years and was formerly of Crossville, Tenn. She was a former employee of Coronet Carpet and was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William “Bill” Sr. and Edith Marie Davis Barnes; three children, Anthony Dale Jackson, Melinda Jackson and Carl Jackson, and grandson, Tony Jackson.
Survivors include three children, Tammy Stewart (Jerry) of Tunnel Hill, Wayne Jackson of Harrison, Tenn., and Pamela Breedlove of Ringgold; sister, Ann Brendel of Crossville, Tenn.; two brothers, William Henry Barnes Jr. of Tunnel Hill and Archie Barnes of Crossville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Stewart Mitchell “Mickey” Lybrand, 59, Rossville
Stewart Mitchell “Mickey” Lybrand of Rossville died Monday, Feb. 21, 2011. He was 59.
He was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., had lived in the north Georgia area for most of his life and was a member of Chattanooga Valley Baptist Church. He was previously employed with Lectrus, formerly known as Metals Systems, for more than 25 years as a machinist and was an avid Georgia fan.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth D. Long.
Survivors include his mother, JoAnn Long of Rossville; brother, Steven Lybrand of East Ridge, Tenn.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie (Doyle) Tindell of Rossville, Terri (Mike) Alspaulgh and Pam (Delvin) VanNice, all of Flintstone; several nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

Mildred Ivalee Cody Paul, 77, Chattanooga, Tenn.
Mildred Ivalee Cody Paul “Granny” of Chattanooga, Tenn., died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011. She was 77.
She was born March 25, 1933 in Bradley County, where she attended Charleston High School. She moved to Chattanooga in 1955 and retired in 2005 from Hancock Fabric with 22 years of service. Mildred loved to work in the yard. She also loved to sew and enjoyed spending time with her family. She volunteered for many years at the Kidney Foundation of Greater Chattanooga, and she and her daughter, Brenda, did craft shows around the area for many years. She was a beloved and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, D.D. and Ruby Cody of Cleveland, Tenn.; daughter, Brenda Gale White, and great-grandson, Hunter Jamison Hendrix of Chattanooga, Tenn.

Roy L. Stonecipher, 80, East Ridge, Tenn.
Roy L. Stonecipher of East Ridge died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, in a local hospital. He was 80.
Mr. Stonecipher was a native of Sevierville, Tenn., and had lived most of his life in the East Ridge area. He was the owner and operator of Roy Stonecipher Carpentry and a member of Carpenters Local #74 and the East Ridge Church of the Nazarene.
His wife of 64 years, Ollie Mae Stonecipher, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Martha Jane Stonecipher, and several brothers and sisters.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Roy L. Stonecipher on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011; parents, Sam and Ruby Lee Hale, and several brothers and sisters.
