The Fort Oglethorpe Police Department fielded complaints regarding a pair of odd thefts on Sunday night, June 16, involving a license plate and a manhole cover. Officers were dispatched to the Kmart store on Battlefield Parkway around 8 p.m. after a customer stated he returned to his vehicle to find that someone had stolen his tag and the screws that held it in place. The victim told police he parked in the middle section of the lot, away from any other vehicle, and that a light-green-colored vehicle was seen driving slowly through the parking lot. After taking that report, a similar suspect vehicle was reported as being seen in the area of nearby LaFayette Road and someone from the vehicle was attempting to steal a manhole cover. Witnesses stated a white male was driving the vehicle, and a "be on the lookout (BOLO)" was given for the vehicle, described as a light-green Nissan Infiniti. Anyone with information regarding the suspect vehicle or the thefts is encouraged to contact the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department at 706-866-2512.
