Rossville pounds Trion in NGAC softball tournament opener

The Rossville Lady Bulldogs had no problems in winning the opening game of the North Georgia Athletic Conference softball tournament on Tuesday, thumping Trion, 15-0, in a three-inning game in Chickamauga.

Rossville scored five runs in the first inning, two coming on a two-RBI single by Callie Scroggins. They added another pair of runs in the second before tacking on six runs in the third. Madison Simmons, Brook Wagner, and Courtney Goins each had two-RBI hits in the frame.

Simmons, Wagner, Goins and Domonique Stubbs each had two hits in the win. Wagner finished with four RBIs while Simmons plated three runs on the day. Makenzie Howard had a hit and scored three runs. Scoggins and Cortney Mooneyham scored twice, while Lauren Salmon had a hit, a run scored, and an RBI.

Autumn Perry had an RBI to help herself to the win in the circle. She struck out four and walked two to pick up the win.

Rossville will face top-seeded LaFayette in LaFayette on Wednesday in the second round. The other games will include Lakeview at Heritage, Chattanooga Valley at Ringgold, and Dade County at Gordon Lee.
