A Ringgold woman was charged with drug possession on Christmas Eve after she allegedly stole nearly $200 worth of merchandise from the Wal-Mart on Battlefield Parkway.

According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department:

Carolyn Ann Stevens, 55, of Moulton Lane in Ringgold, Ga., was arrested on Monday, Dec. 24, on charges shoplifting and possession of marijuana less than one-ounce.

Stevens has been released from jail on bond.

Officers responded to the Wal-Mart at 3040 Ga. 2 (Battlefield Parkway) just after 6 p.m. in regards to a call that store employees were chasing the suspect through the parking lot.

"I located employees following the offender around where she was hiding behind a dumpster behind the Taco Bell restaurant on the outlying property of Wal-Mart," officer Ray Bowman said.

Stevens was placed under arrest for shoplifting, at which time drugs were found in her purse.

Marijuana was found in a prescription pill bottle, reports show.

The $183 dollars worth of stolen merchandise was recovered and returned to the store while Stevens was transported to Catoosa County jail without further incident.
