A Ringgold couple was arrested and charged with multiple counts of shoplifting on Sunday, Jan. 20, during 2½-hour crime spree that took them from the Fort Oglethorpe Wal-Mart, to a Ringgold gas station, and eventually to jail.

According to the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office:

Jason Dale Campbell, 29, and Ariel Cathleen Campbell, 21, both of Ringgold, were arrested Jan. 20. Ariel Campbell was charged with two counts of shoplifting, while Jason Campbell was charged with one count of shoplifting. Bond was set at $7,000 for each suspect.

The incidents began just before 8 p.m. at the Wal-Mart at 3040 Ga. 2 (Battlefield Parkway) after store employees called police regarding a female shoplifter who had fled the scene in a gray Dodge Durango SUV.

“When I arrived at the scene, I spoke with a store employee who stated that a white female was observed taking several pairs of women’s underwear and a pair of pants into the fitting room,” Fort Oglethorpe officer Matthew Ray said. “He stated that the female changed into the pants and underwear, left her own urine-soaked clothing in the dressing room, then exited the store without paying for the clothing.”

$29 worth of clothes was reported stolen during the incident.

Approximately an hour later, around 9:10 p.m., employees of the Kangaroo gas station at 11418 U.S. 41 in Ringgold stated that both Campbells entered the store and each took a case of beer, reports show.

“The witnesses stated that the male and female offenders entered the convenience store together, at which time both went to the beer coolers and each retrieved a 30-count case of Bud Light,” Catoosa sheriff’s deputy Benjamin Boyd said. “Both offenders then exited the entrance of the convenience store and drove from the premises in a grey in color Dodge Durango.”

Descriptions of the duo were given to police, and they were located a few minutes later in the parking lot of the Ringgold Walgreen’s at 5075 Ga. 151 (Alabama Highway) by officer Wilborn Dycus of the Ringgold Police Department, reports show.

Witnesses from the gas station were taken to the Walgreen’s parking lot to make a positive identification of the Campbells.

“Both witnesses identified each offender on an individual basis as the offenders that removed the 30-count cases of Bud Light beer from within the store,” Boyd said. “One of the cases of beer found in the vehicle had been opened.”

The total sale price of the two cases of beer is $42.38.

The duo was placed under arrest and transported to Catoosa County jail without further incident by deputy Blake Edwards.

According to the Ringgold Police Department, Jason Campbell has been arrested numerous times since 2011, and was involved in at least eight incident reports filed with the department in 2012.

The couple was involved in a domestic altercation on Jan. 5, in which Ringgold officers encountered Jason Campbell after a fight between he and Ariel.

Jason, who was intoxicated, bloodied and had a black eye at the time, admitted that the couple had been fighting.

Jason was then instructed to stay at the residence due to his intoxicated state, but was later arrested by a Catoosa County sheriff’s deputy who found him walking down Hoover Road still intoxicated, reports show.

Ariel Campbell was also arrested in mid-January by the Chattanooga Police Department on a charge of vehicular homicide by recklessness, stemming from an Oct. 26, 2012, wreck along I-24 that claimed the life of a 61-year-old James “Jimbo” Morgan.

The vehicle Ariel was driving at the time went out of control near Rossville Boulevard, causing a multi-vehicle wreck, reports show.

Witnesses at the scene told police Ariel was traveling with her emergency lights on and was swerving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed.

Morgan, who swerved to avoid other vehicles, was ejected from his vehicle and later died from his injuries.
