Walker County commissioner Bebe Heiskell approved the 2012 property tax (millage) rate Thursday, Sept. 27, at a figure unchanged from 2011.

Heiskell noted that although property values have depreciated in the past year, she did not raise property taxes to compensate, and the county budget will be set with lesser revenue than in 2011.

Since it remains unchanged, the unincorporated county property tax is set at a net rate of 4.835, and the incorporated at a net rate of 7.195. The county estimates revenues of $4,505,823 and $2,798,318 from the unincorporated and incorporated areas, respectively, for a total of $7,304,142.

The net decrease in property tax revenue from 2011 to 2012 is $203,666, representing a 2.71 percent loss.
