Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to attend special programs Sept. 14-20 commemorating the 149th anniversary of the Battle of Chickamauga. Additionally, the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center will be open Sept. 15-16 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

Visitors are encouraged to participate in a variety of special walks, talks and tours concerning pivotal occurrences and actions that took place during the battle.

In addition to these programs, living historians will conduct special demonstrations where they will fire six reproduction cannons, allowing visitors to experience the ground tremble from the power of these destructive weapons. These demonstrations will take place in Poe Field; please follow the special event signs to designated parking.

Eastern National Bookstore will also be hosting authors Brad Quinlin of “Duty Well Performed: The Twenty-first Ohio in the Civil War” and Robert Carter of “The Battle of Chickamauga: The Fight for Snodgrass Hill” and the “Rock of Chickamauga.” They will be inside the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center, meeting visitors and signing books.

For times and locations of all commemorative programs, a special program guide can be downloaded from the park webpage at nps.gov/chch. Visitors may also pick up hard copies at the information desks inside park visitor centers or contact Chickamauga Battlefield at 706-866-9241 or Lookout Mountain Battlefield at 423-821-7786.
