A Rossville man was charged with DUI and drug possession in Fort Oglethorpe after he was found to be in possession of numerous pills in the parking lot of an auto parts store.

According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department:

Shawn Daniel Llewellyn, 24, of LaFayette Drive in Rossville was arrested on Friday, Aug. 10, and charged with DUI, violating the Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and drugs not kept in original container. He has been released from jail on bond.

Officers were dispatched to the Advanced Auto Parts at 561 Ga. 2 (Battlefield Parkway) just before 4 p.m. in regards to a possible intoxicated driver on the premises.

“Upon arrival, we observed the offender preparing to get into his vehicle to leave the location,” officer Ray Bowman said. “I observed the offender staggering, being very unsteady on his feet, and exhibiting poor balance. I didn’t detect any odor of alcoholic beverage on his person, but the subject’s eye pupils were very constricted, fixed and gazed, with his speech also slurred.”

Llewellyn failed multiple field sobriety tests, reports show.

While searching Llewellyn, officers found multiple pill tablets inside a cigarette pack with no cigarettes inside.

“Both the online pill identifier and poison control identified the tablets as methadone,” Bowman said.

Llewellyn consented to a blood kit with Angel EMS and was then transported to Catoosa County jail without incident.
