The Rossville Middle School wrestling team opened its season this past Friday in a tri-meet with Chattanooga Valley at Heritage.
Heritage defeated Rossville, 77-6, and Chattanooga Valley defeated the Bulldogs, 49-27.
Rossville co-captain Maxwell Rather (86 pounds) won both of his matches by pinfall. Fellow co-captain Jeromy Miller (123 pounds) went 1-1 on the day, winning and losing by decision.
Also scoring victories by pin against Chattanooga Valley were Bradley Burse (78), Leif Atchley (150) and Christian Phillips (180). Kory Pearson (72) lost a close decision against Chattanooga Valley.
RMS Coaches Robert Stinson and Donald Shirley say they expect more success for Rather, Miller, Burse, Atchley and Phillips, and expect to see tremendous improvements from Pearson, Paul Kinsey (108), Anthony Veal (130), Colby Daniel (140) and Zachary Renfro (165).
Also wrestling for the Bulldogs and showing great potentional were sixth graders Zarian Taylor (HWT), Colby Woods (115), Cody Anderson (100), and seventh graders Dalton Alexander and Cory Reeves (both at 94).
The Bulldogs took on Lakeview and LaFayette in Monday night matches at Lakeview Middle School.
Lakeview scored a 54-30 win over Rossville while LaFayette downed the Bulldogs, 66-12.
Getting pins for Rossville against the Warriors were Burse, Rather, Kinsey, and Miller. Pearson won his match by decision.
Rather recorded his fourth pin in four matches this year during the LaFayette match while and Pearson won by forfeit.
