A Ringgold woman was arrested in Fort Oglethorpe on Jan. 11 after, police say, she entered and stole from several vehicles in the Wal-Mart parking lot on Battlefield Parkway.

According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department:

Rhonda Jane Doss, 41, of Murphy Lane in Ringgold was arrested on Friday Jan. 11, on four counts of entering an auto, possession of a Schedule IV drug, possession of a Schedule II drug, drugs not in original container, and bringing stolen property into the state. She has been released from jail on bond.

Doss was confronted by police around 9:18 p.m. on Jan. 11 after a witness reported seeing her enter four different vehicles, in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

The witness stated that Doss was attempting to enter a fifth vehicle when police arrived, reports show.

“I was dispatched to the location and advised of a suspicious female in a white Volkswagen Beetle,” officer Michael Cannon said. “I initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and spoke to the offender who stated that she thought she was entering her sister's vehicle. When I asked about the other three vehicles, she was unable to provide a reason for her entry into those.”

The owners of the entered vehicles were located, and it was discovered that Doss had allegedly stolen various keys, clothing, electronics, and numerous phone-charging cords.

One item, a silver Apple iPod, didn't belong to anyone at the scene, but officer Cannon was able to locate the owner.

“While attempting to locate a serial number, I located a cell phone number,” Cannon said. “I had Catoosa 911 conference me with the subject and he advised that the iPod had been stolen from his vehicle earlier in the day in East Ridge, Tenn. He stated that he had not filed a report because he did not believe the iPod would be located. I advised him to contact the East Ridge Police Department and file a report.”

Overall, about $832 worth of merchandise was recovered from Doss' vehicle and returned to the rightful owners.

Doss was taken into custody and transported to Catoosa County jail for booking.

While being processed at the jail, detention officers discovered drugs in Doss' purse, reports show.

“During intake, officers located a small multi-colored make-up bag in the very bottom of the offender's purse,” Cannon said. “Inside the bag, officers located two small glass make-up jars. One jar contained three and a half yellow oval tablets believed to be Xanax, and one round white pill believed to be Oxymorphone.”

A second glass jar was found, which contained a yellow powdered substance, reports show.

“Ms. Doss advised that the pills were indeed Xanax and Oxymorphone, and that the yellow powder was crushed Xanax,” Cannon said.

The make-up bag, glass jars, pills, and powder were all collected as evidence, with the pills to be sent to the Georgia State Crime Lab for testing and identification.
