A sergeant with the Ringgold Police Department was fired Friday evening, Feb. 15, as a result of an internal investigation that began following a complaint from a citizen.

“As a result of a citizen complaint filed against Sgt. Tom Evans, the Ringgold Police Department initiated an internal investigation,” said chief Dan Bilbrey in a prepared statement Monday morning. “The investigation revealed that Sgt. Evans had failed to follow departmental directives and policies. As a result of non-compliance with the above issues, Sgt. Evans’ employment with the city of Ringgold was terminated on Friday, Feb. 15.”

Evans had been employed with the Ringgold Police Department since May 29, 2009.

I think most public servants (the ones you and I pay salaries for) should make the paper when terminated for not following rules. This guy is authorized to legally kill you if you don't follow certain laws, and he can't follow simple rules? And even the thin blue line couldn't protect him? That's a bad apple in my book, good riddance.

The guy loses his job and you post it on here for the entire community to see. It doesn't state that he broke any laws, just that he didn't follow policies of the department. Explain why this needs to been talked about in the news?

It doesn't. I wonder how the public would like it if all terminations were reported in the newspaper. This isn't newsworthy and the media needs to stop doing everything possible to ruin peoples lives. They don't care that this type of story can ruin someone forever.

Now let's see him be able to gain employment since this has been blasted out there for all to see.

It is posted because this is a taxpayer funded job and a position of responsibility. A ranking member of the Ringgold Police Department being fired is news worthy. It is important that someone follow rules and procedures and laws when granted the authority to kill someone if necessary. I care not about his reputation, only that he performs his duty without violating the laws and rules prescribed.
