The new Krystal restaurant currently being erected along Alabama Highway (Ga. 151) in Ringgold could possibly be the site of another business in the future.

The city council, during a public hearing Monday night, Feb. 25, unanimously approved a subdivide request for the property.

The popular eatery, which was heavily damaged by a tornado on April 27, 2011, is expected to be finished and open for business at its new location in April.

During the public hearing of the company’s request Monday night, professional engineer Mark Campbell with Carter Engineering Consultants in Bogart, Ga., mentioned the possibility of adding another restaurant to the subdivided lot.

“Krystal is happy to be coming back to Ringgold,” Campbell said. “The lot that the restaurant is being built on is a lot bigger than Krystal actually needs. The request to subdivide is so that the remaining property can be marketed for a neighbor in the future.”

The old Krystal site was located at 5520 Ga. 151 next door to Hardee’s.

The new restaurant is being built at 5337 Ga. 151, the site of the old BP gas station, which was also ravaged during the April 2011 tornado.

Campbell also told the council that the Krystal Company is currently negotiating with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to keep the right-in, right-out driveway entrance coming from Ga. 151.

“Hopefully the DOT will let y’all have that entrance at the front so that it won’t land-lock the property,” said mayor Joe Barger.

The following items were unanimously approved during the council meeting:

· Alvin and Patsy Worley’s request to rezone property at Tax Map 38B, Parcel 14, from commercial to residential (C-2 to R-1).

· Casey Johnson’s request for conditional use of property at Tax Map 54, Parcel 14, as a wholesale warehouse for flooring.

· Doug Hamilton’s request to rezone property at Tax Map R5, Parcel 129, from R-4 to R-3 in conjunction with his plan to build apartments on the property.

· An amendment to the land subdivision ordinance to require developers to install curb, gutter, sidewalks, tiled stormwater structures, and uniform or individual lighting to be approved by the city.

· An amendment to the billboard and sign ordinance concerning banners.

· An amendment to the building exteriors ordinance for C-1, C-2, and C-3 zones to include fiber cement siding.

· The reappointment of city clerk Judy Pace as the city’s elections superintendent.
