Rising Gordon Lee sophomore Jonathan Ragsdale won the 2012 USA Weightlifting Youth National Championship, which was held in Dearborn, Mich., on June 22.

Ragsdale, who captured the Class A 106-pound state wrestling title for the Trojans this past winter, has been weight training at Chattanooga Speed and Strength with Coach Steve Fauer for the past three years to compliment his wrestling, but has only been training for competitive weightlifting for six weeks.

Ragsdale, competing in the 50 kilogram (kg) weight class, lifted 57 kg in the snatch and 78 kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 135 kg.

He defeated last year’s champion from Missouri by five total kilograms.
