Over three hundred people from the North Georgia/Carolina Patriots group, including Warren and Teresa Tatum of Ringgold, marched in Washington on Sept. 12.
The nonpartisan group took part in a march of over one million people who are concerned about the economic condition of the country and the introduction of recent healthcare and cap-and-trade legislative bills.
Many from the group visited the offices of senators and representatives Saxby Chambliss, Johnny Isakson, Kay Hagan, Richard Burr, and Heath Shuler to address these concerns and to deliver thousands of signatures against the healthcare and the cap-and-trade bills. Petitions to support the Fair Tax were also delivered.
The group members were given a tour of the U.S. Capitol building prior to visiting the Senators. Three students, 17-year-old Jeff Stewart of Towns county, 9-year-old McKayla Part-low of Rabun county and 11-year-old Sarah Gilley, traveled with the group.
The group is planning to attend a rally in Washington to be held on April 15. The next meeting for the Patriots is Sept. 22, at 6 p.m., in the Towns County High School Auditorium. A canned food drive for the local food pantry will be held as well that night. For further information call the group’s founder, Nighta Davis, at 706-896-9021.
I attended the march on Washington, Sept. 12, 2009 and I have both comments and questions about your comment.
(1)I watched all of the TV coverage of the thousands(not millions) who marched on Washington. (1)From what source did you get the confirmation that the number was below one million? (2)I never got what changes they were looking for. (2) We were all basically there in protest of the expansion of our government and the infringement of our individual rights as guaranteed by the Constitution and Bill of Rights. (3)Where were all of these "Patriots" when George Bush was running up the debt and spending? (3) Unfortunately we were all "on the couch". (4)Healthcare Reform will actually improve the economy. (4) Please expound on how "healthcare reform" will improve our economy. (5)Residents of North Georgia will benefit more than most. (5) How so? (6)Do you really want a return of the last 8 years? (6) Absolutely not! (7)There is no excuse for being this uninformed. (7) We agree on that point. (8)Please read more than one newspaper and get at least some of your TV news from any other source than FOX!!(8) I watch a variety of news programs including PBS for my information and read various publications including the AJC. I like to get an overall perspective. (9)Are you against Obama because he is part black? (9) Absolutely not. I actually voted for an African American previously in two prior presidential race primaries. (10)He is trying to fix some of the wrongs created by Bush. (10) Bush yes, but not only Bush. Our corrupt government (both liberal & conservative) has been on a runaway train into socialism for many years and because of folks like me, it could be too late to stop it. But rest assured that millions of us "on the couchers" are now getting up to continue the fight. Washington was just the kick off and you are welcome to join us.
