The construction of the two bridges in Walker County on Happy Valley Road over Chattanooga Creek and Chattanooga Creek overflow has finished on schedule.

The bridges open to traffic on Sept. 21, weather permitting.

“This project is very important for Walker County, and we are pleased that we have been able to complete its construction on time and on budget and give Happy Valley Road back to motorists in the area,” said DeWayne Comer, district engineer at the Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) office in Cartersville.

The project also includes improvements to the intersection of Happy Valley Road and Hwy. 193.

The new traffic signal at the intersection of Hwy. 193 and Happy Valley Road will be placed on flashing mode on Sept. 21. It will be turned on for full operation on Sept. 26.

A contract for this project was awarded to Talley Construction Company, Inc. of Rossville in late December 2010. Work on the bridge began early May 2011, with an official completion date of Sept. 30, 2012 and a construction cost of $2,576,193.
