The annual New Blood in North Georgia promotion set another record for first-time blood donors in North Georgia during August. Ninety-six residents became first-time blood donors this year, compared to 95 in 2008.
New Blood in North Georgia is an effort of the local advisory board of Blood Assurance. The panel is comprised of business and civic leaders who work to promote awareness of the need for blood donations in the North Georgia community.
A total of 740 units of blood were collected in Catoosa and Walker counties last month, compared to 617 units collected during last year’s campaign.
Prizes donated by local businesses were offered during the promotion. Visitors at the local Blood Assurance location and at area blood drives were eligible to register for the prizes.
