Lady Trojans avoid upset in NGAC tournament opener

The North Georgia Athletic Conference basketball tournament tipped off at Ringgold Middle School on Monday and the higher seeded teams held serve on the first day, but not before a major upset scare.

The No. 2 seeded Gordon Lee girls escaped with a 37-36 victory over No. 7 Chattanooga Valley.

Avrie Weldon had 12 points for the Lady Trojans while Madelyn Lee added 10.

Ammaya Harrington had 10 points for the Lady Eagles while Lexie James and Destiny Irwin each finished with eight.

The other girls' game saw No. 8 seed LaFayette defeat No. 9 Rossville, 32-10. Shayla Ludy led the Lady Ramblers with 10 points.

No individual scorers from the Lady Bulldogs were available as of press time.

The lone boys' game on Monday saw the No. 8 seeded Ringgold Tigers got six 3-pointers and 22 points from Cade Gilbert in a 35-23 win over No. 9 seed Chattanooga Valley.

Cole Williams paced the Eagles with 12 points.
