Freshman forward Alyssa Nichelson led the way for the Georgia Northwestern Lady Bobcats on Friday night, racking up 19 points, six rebounds, and five steals in a 86-57 road win over Southern Crescent Tech in Griffin.

Fellow first-year post player Terika Mostella would drop in a dozen points and clean the boards for 13 rebounds in GNTC’s fourth-straight NJCAA Region XVII win. The Lady Bobcats (10-8, 4-0) are looking to defend their region title and qualify for a second-straight national tournament berth.

Freshman Mariah Price would contribute 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in the win. Southern Crescent’s Lakeisha Anderson would lead all scorers for the Lady Tigers with 14.

The news, however, was not all good for the Lady Bobcats as the region's leading rebounder, Odessa Person, turned her right ankle at the end of their recent game versus West Georgia Tech. Person will miss 1-2 weeks.

GNTC will be in action next on Jan. 23 when the Lady Bobcats travel up Lookout Mountain to face off with the Lady Scots of Covenant College in a non-region match-up.

Southern Crescent Tech men 71, GNTC 52

Freshman guard Quinton Cotton led all scorers with 14 points on Friday night, but the Bobcats would drop the game to the Tigers.

GNTC (5-12, 0-4) trailed 34-20 at intermission. They shot just 65 percent from the free throw line and only eight percent from the behind the three-point line in the region loss.

Fellow freshman guard Hunter Ivester would add 12 points and a team-leading 10 rebounds. Sophomore post Bud Todd had six points, five rebounds, three blocked shots, and two steals, while sophomore Alex Miller added 13 points and a pair of steals.

Southern Crescent guard Contravious Critten would lead all Tiger scorers with 12 points and seven assists in the win.

The Bobcats will play on the road Saturday afternoon at Emory-Oxford College, continuing a stint of four games in five days.
