Leadership reigned at the Rossville Athletic Center on Thursday night as sophomore Lady Bobcats Mia Morrow, Kayci McGee, and Jessica Williams opened up their games and found their rhythm at just the right time versus Nashville’s Freewill Baptist.

With their first trip to the NJCAA post-season a little over two weeks away, Georgia Northwestern wrapped up their 2011-12 regular season with a non-region win over the Lady Flames, 75-27.

Morrow led the way 23 points, 10 assists, and three steals while Williams left her mark in the scorebook with 14 points, four steals, and three blocks in the victory. McGee added 14 points and pulled down seven boards.

“Our sophomores stepped up and really showed some muscle and hustle today,” said GNTC women's head coach Jim Williams. “We have a lot of work to do if want to even have a shot at anything in the post-season. We are just proud to be a part of it.”

Although the Lady Bobcats (4-14, 3-3) had one of the toughest non-region schedules among junior college programs in the country this season, their region performance has earned them a spot in the NJCAA Region XVII Tournament in Oxford on Feb. 25.

The region tournament winner will go on to the District Qualifier. The site for that round has yet to be determined.

Freewill men 80, GNTC 68

The nightcap saw the two teams exchange leads more than a dozen times in the first half with the visitors up by only three points at halftime, but thanks to the play of Chattanooga native and Silverdale Baptist alum, Chris Davenport, Freewill managed to pull away and steal a road against the Bobcats.

Davenport finished with 23 points in the win.

Freshman Alex Miller paced GNTC (7-16, 0-6) with 16 points and 12 rebounds while sophomore point guard Matt Woods added 13 points, five assists, and three steals. Ben Patton had four 3-pointers to finish with 14 points and Bud Todd dropped in 11.

"We are three weeks from our region tournament and we have a lot to think about as a team between now and then,” said GNTC men's head coach David Stephenson.

Stephenson will be honored for his 25 years in coaching during halftime of Saturday's home game against region opponent Emory-Oxford. Former players, coaches, families, friends, and administrators are invited to come take part in the ceremony at the Rossville Athletic Complex. The game tips-off at 2 p.m.
