A nine-point lead at the break for the Georgia Northwestern Lady Bobcats quickly evaporated in the second half at the hands of a Mid-South College full-court press, and the visitors used a 49-point second half to earn a 72-57 win at the Rossville Athletic Center on Tuesday.

Shooting guard Sierra Smith led the Lady Bobcats (6-6) with 13 points in the loss. Mid-South point guard LaQuaris Harris led all scorers with 18 points on the night for the Lady Greyhounds (3-7).

Freshman Odessa Person had a big game for GNTC, scoring 12 points and pulling down 18 rebounds.

Down by nine coming out of the intermission, the Lady Greyhounds took their defense 94-feet as the pressure would result in a 40-37 Mid-South lead at the 15-minute mark. It was a lead they would never relinquish.

The Lady Cats would shoot a well-below par 30 percent from the field on the night. An even more troubling number came at the charity stripe where GNTC shot a dismal 33 percent in the loss.

Mid-South connected on 53 percent of their shots from the field in the second half.

The Lady Bobcats will not return to action until Jan. 3 when they play at Gadsden State (Ala.)

In the nightcap at Rossville, the Bobcats would almost mirror the performance of the Lady Bobcats taking a five-point lead, 30-25, into the locker room.

However, the guests from West Memphis, Ark. would win the second half to claim a five-point win.

Alex Miller put up impressive numbers with 12 points and 11 boards in the home loss. Freshman Quinton Cotton led the way with 21 points on the night for the Bobcats, while guard Eugene Palmer led the Greyhounds with 15 points.

A pair of flashy half-court passes from freshman Tavish Reynolds to fellow freshman Quinton, combined with a bank-shot three-pointer from 6-foot-5 post player Bud Todd, highlighted the offensive output of the Cats in the first twenty minutes.

It would be the press of the Greyhounds that stole the show in the second half. Mid-South would grow their lead to 11 in the second half before the aggressive play of the Cats would get the Cats within two at 56-54 in the final two minutes.

But GNTC would get no closer as turnovers and late free throws by the Greyhounds helped lift the visitors to the tough road win.

Georgia Northwestern will close out its pre-Christmas break schedule on Friday night at home against Tennessee Temple.
