Based on preliminary election results, Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit district attorney Herbert “Buzz” Franklin has retained his job by a slim 43 votes.

In Tuesday’s general primary election, Franklin defeated challenger Doug Woodruff, 10,973 to 10,929 votes, in the four-county judicial circuit, which includes Catoosa, Walker, Chattooga and Dade counties. The numbers include all precincts reporting in Catoosa, Walker and Dade counties, and 12 of 13 precincts reporting in Chattooga County.

Here are the totals, with Franklin’s votes first, followed by Woodruff’s votes: Catoosa, 3616 to 4520; Walker, 4836 to 5180; Chattooga, 373 to 218; Dade, 2148 to 1012.

There are no Democratic challengers for the district attorney post.

How would you know Buzz doesnt do favors? Do you work with him on a daily basis and see who he chooses to go after? I doubt it! I know for a fact he did a few people favors...... all bc they new a judge or him personally.... he doesnt support local businesses when he lets theives go unpunished..

It is a true shame to see local politics play out... Catoosa and Walker counties are stronger conservatives and overall, better educated politically. Dade and Chatooga are more liberal which leads to mindless voting...voters come in for a particular race...typically sheriff...then click on incumbents like Buzz mindlessly without educating themselves before doing so. Buzz counted on this...he spent 4 times less on his campaign which was evident by anyone who travels in the counties of Walker and Catoosa by the sheer number of signs allowed in individuals yards in support of Woodruff. Woodruff had 50 signs of support to Franklins 1 which was predominantly on street corners. Perhaps next time our electorate will be more educated as to the best, most ethical candidate...rather than click yes for incumbent out of ignorance. That type of mindless, ignorant voting belongs in Chicago! Please educate yourself before you vote...and encourage others you come in contact with to do the same. Cheers

Oh I know she was found not guilty! I really don't care if she's guilty or not, but the "people" sent her to trial in the first place. I know how the system works and I also know both candidates.

Ohhhh mom, you act like the grand jury was provided with the truth. Remember who you're talking to.

By the way, I'll quote you, "I really don't care if shes guilty or not..."

That says an awful lot about you...and why you believe Buzz to be a good man that does the right thing.

In my opinion you don't know right from wrong, good from bad.

As a matter of fact, i have no idea who i'm talking to. I do care about the victims, but I don't care to argue about whether she is guilty or not. Like I said, I know both of them and I feel that the best man won. That is my opinion (and the majorities) and I'm not going to personally bash people on here.

Its pretty clear who you are. You know she was found not guilty, but you really don't care if shes guilty or not?

(Looking around) Yeah, I "think" this is America? Back in the day when public schools actually taught American history, the constitution, bill of rights, how our courts are supposed to work, etc., we were actually taught a person is innocent until proven guilty by a jury of their peers in a court of law. You my dear are making it clear that you don't believe Tonya is innocent.

You talk about the grand jury and their decision, but you don't talk about the jury and their decision or the fact that they saw though the lies Buzz's assistant DA's and others tried to spoon feed them.

I'm not surprised. You are only concerned about your rights, not mine, and certainly not your fellow citizens.

Yes, you have the right to your opinions, no one wants to take that right away from you. However that means I also have the right to my opinions and frankly my opinion is you voted for a buddy.

Personally, I don't know Buzz, don't know what of man he is, but I certainly know what kind of DA he is and I know he needs to find a new line of work.

The law abiding citizens of this county shouldn't have to live in fear of getting on the wrong side of one of the favored citizens. By favored I mean one thats allowed to commit perjury (or as the Ninth Commandment says - Thou shalt not bear false witness) and Buzz did nothing.

But oh well, as long as its not you they come for, all is good in your glass house (rolling eyes)

Remember this?

First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.

The people in this county are the ones who said there was enough evidence for it to go to trial. If you so called people believed she was innocent, then it should have been no billed. Before you say that the defense doesn't get to put up any evidence to the grand jury, there's probably a lot of evidence from the state that didn't get to come out in trial. That is the judicial system, like it or not. I guess the majority doesn't agree with all of you!

I live in Catoosa County and I hold Buzz Franklin responsible for trying to put an innocent woman in jail!! And I think Buzz does do favors! He allowed the Gregor and Arnt to keep their jobs after the Tonya Craft trail. He allowed the CAC, Holly Kittle to keep her job. Sorry but I don't see the "good man". You better hope you don't get on the good man's bad side or you'll find yourself in jail. One thing I learned from the Tonya Craft trail, if someone wants to get you and they have money and power you are GOING TO JAIL! and the good man will be more then happy to put you there or drain you dry trying!!

I guess everyone forgot about his lack of leadership and the joke that became the Tonya Craft trial.

Buzz is a good man and I'm in Catoosa County! He does what he thinks is the right thing to do and he doesn't do "favors!"

Chattooga and Dade counties don't seem to know the same "Buzz" we do. I went to bed last night feeling pretty good, thinking Buzz was out of here. I wake up and read this and all that comes to mind is, Bewitched.....

"Frank, I have a sick headache!"

I cannot believe that he got re-elected after the Tonya Craft trial people have a short memory. Doug Woodruff needs to ask for a recount.
