Fort Oglethorpe Christmas parade scheduled for Dec. 5
The Fort Oglethorpe Christmas parade will be on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. Entry forms are available at the Fort Oglethorpe Fire Department.
The parade begins on Battlefield Parkway around Capital Bank and Kentucky Fried Chicken. The parade will turn left on LaFayette Road and end at Harker Road.
The parade participants will begin lining up at 5 p.m. A check-in point will be located at Radio Shack. Each group will be assigned a number and to keep a group together all of the participants need to arrive at the same time.
First, second, and third place prizes sponsored by Capital Bank will be given to the best floats. The prize will be a plaque.
Floats will be judged on performance, appearance, and theme. To be eligible for prizes the float must have at least a two feet by three feet banner on the passenger side of vehicle.

Candy cannot be thrown due to safety precautions. Parade participants can hand out candy through people walking along the curbside during the parade.

The city’s Christmas tree lighting event will be on Tuesday, Dec. 1 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at City Hall. Rev. Steve Brandon, who also serves on the City Council, will speak, and special Christmas music will be provided by Chattanooga Valley Baptist Church in Flintstone, Ga. refreshments will be served inside City Hall after the tree lighting.
