The former band director of Lakeview Middle School in Fort Oglethorpe has been arrested on child molestation charges.

Thomas Blevins, who resigned following allegations he had sent inappropriate text messages to a female student, was arrested Tuesday night in Dunlap, Tenn., in Sequatchie County.

Blevins is being held in the Sequatchie jail on charges, brought by the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office, of aggravated child molestation, false imprisonment, and two counts of child molestation.

Blevins, band director at Lakeview Middle School for the past six year, resigned recently after an investigation into the text messages. He was suspended by the Catoosa County school system on Nov. 27, and subsequently resigned prior to a hearing that was scheduled to take place to determine his fate at the school.

Neither the sheriff's office nor the school system have publicly commented on Blevins’ arrest.
