The program is sponsored by Dalton State’s Intercollegiate Athletics program.
Before joining the NAIA, McCarthy served as basketball coach at Wilmington College in Delaware and later as athletic director at Lynn University in Florida. In addition to serving as tournament director for the NAIA, he also helped manage the NAIA’s “Champions of Character” program which promotes academic excellence and community service among student athletes.
“We are inviting John to Dalton as a service to local coaches who are so important to our community and our athletic program,” said Dalton State Athletic Director Derek Waugh. “As a coach myself, I try to take any opportunity to see what other coaches are doing and how they are successful, John McCarthy has done a lot of research on what makes great coaches great and his program should be beneficial to anyone coaching at any level.”
All area coaches are invited to attend the free program; no registration is necessary. Those wanting more information can contact Derek Waugh at dwaugh@daltonstate.edu.
Dalton State launched its intercollegiate athletics program earlier this year. Competition will begin next year with men’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, volleyball, men’s and women’s cross country, and competitive cheer.
