The Chattanooga Valley Middle School Lady Eagles used a 13-5 run at the start of the second half, then played tough defense down the stretch in a 45-31 home victory over Trion early Saturday morning.

Chattanooga Valley led 11-10 after one quarter and 22-17 at intermission, but took control in the early stages of the third quarter to pull out to a 35-22 lead.

The Lady Bulldogs would whittle the gap down to eight with four minutes to play, but the Lady Eagles would hold the visitors without a single point for the rest of the game. Chattanooga Valley came up with three big steals in the final two minutes, including two by Grayson James, to help secure the North Georgia Athletic Conference win.

Amaya Harrington scored 15 points to pace the home team. Haley Sandridge added 10 and Marquila Davis finished with nine.

The boys' game saw Trion nearly squander a big early lead before settling down for a 45-34 victory.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 17-4 advantage in the first five minutes of the game, but a 6-0 CVMS run ended the opening period and the Eagles sliced the deficit to 24-20 by halftime.

CVMS would score the first bucket of the second half to pull back within a single basket, but Trion would score six unanswered points before later scoring the final six points of the quarter to go up 38-27. The Eagles would cut the lead back to nine in the fourth, but got no closer.

Isiah Foster had 15 points for the Bulldogs, while Issac Foster added 10.

Markeion Jones had a game-high 16 for the Eagles. Marquie Davis added nine in the loss.
