Rock City’s seventh annual German festival Rocktoberfest opened Oct. 6 and is open every Saturday and Sunday in October from noon to 5 pm.

Experience fun German culture with authentic food, drinks, activities and music, including “the world’s most dangerous accordion player” (terrycavanagh.com).

Hear regional bands as well as some of Chattanooga’s favorites, like The Wurstbrats (a subgroup of Chattanooga’s Big Band Sweet Georgia Sound), Alpine Express, Musik Meisters and Laurentz und die Katzen. Enjoy live German music, polka lessons, interactive kid’s activities and food like grilled bratwursts, rosemary potatoes and homemade sauerkraut.

Rock City Gardens is partnering once again with the MaryEllen Locher Foundation (melfoundation.org) and Scenic City Survivors (ScenicCitySurvivors.org) in promotion of the pink Survivor Birdhouse, honoring breast cancer awareness month in October. Back again this season are pink birdhouse ornaments, mugs and lapel pins. A portion of the proceeds goes to benefit both organizations in aiding their efforts for breast cancer awareness and support for women diagnosed, as well as a scholarship program. These pink products are only offered through Oct. 31 (seerockcity.com/survivor).
