A final pair of stabs from the 3-point line fell short for the Georgia Northwestern Bobcats on Saturday as they fought back from a double-digit lead against visiting Macon State in Rossville. Freshman Alex Miller would lead the way with 17 points, but late turnovers would lead to a 68-64 non-region loss to the Blue Storm.

Macon State center Darrell Adams and shooting guard Lenny Samples would both pour in 16 points in the win. Inspired play by bench standouts Justin Dempsey and Andre Towns would help the Bobcats keep things close as the game wound down.

GNTC (7-12, 0-5) now prepares for a long road trip to the Music City on Monday night to take on NCCAA notable Freewill Baptist in another non-region game. The Bobcats are five weeks away from their first trip to the NJCAA Region XVII tournament, which will be held in Oxford, Ga.

At halftime, Georgia Northwestern recognized the members of the very first men’s basketball squad from five years ago. In that pilot season, the team, then known as the Northwestern Technical College Mustangs, swept through at abbreviated season with an 11-0 record. They were one of only three varsity men's college basketball programs in the nation that season to finish unblemished.

Among those in attendance for the special tribute were first year players Dustin Rosser (Trion), Nate Smith (LaFayette), and Bud Todd (Trion). Representing first year standout Tim McKeever (LFO) was his mother, Christine McKeever. Tim is currently preparing to ship out for Afghanistan from his present station with the United State Marine Corps in California.

David Stephenson was the coach of that first team. He has been the only head coach for the program over its five years of collegiate participation.
