Lois Gwendolyn Cash, 74, Centre, Ala.

Mrs. Lois Gwendolyn “Gwen” Cash of Centre, Ala., died Thursday March 11, 2010 in Snellville, Ga. She was 74.

She was a native of Cherokee County, Ala., the daughter of the late Chancellor and Annie Lou Russell. She was a resident of Summerville, Ga. for 47 years before moving to Centre, Ala. Gwen graduated from Georgia Tech and retired from SI Corporation in Chickamauga, where she served in management. She was a member of Perennial Springs Baptist Church in Summerville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman L. Cash; sisters, Ethelene Blair and Dorothy Flaherty; brothers, Clarence Russell, Charles Russell and Norman Russell.

Survivors include her brothers, Bobby Russell of Centre, Ala., Billy Russell and Willburn Russell of Piedmont, Ala.; sisters, Nilmarg Smart of Piedmont, Ala., Joyce Burk, Louise Law and Clara McKinney, of Centre, Ala., and Betty Smith of Snellville, Ga.; several nieces and nephews, and a host of special children and friends.

Thomas “Tommy” Jones, 59, Chickamauga

Thomas “Tommy” Jones of Chickamauga died Tuesday, March 9, 2010. He was 59.

He was born in Ft. Payne, Ala. to the late James Thomas and Dovie Jones. He was a member of Noble Church of God and retired from Crystal Springs after 15 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Annette, Margaret and Max Jones.

Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Frances Jones of Chickamauga; sister, Brenda Richardson of Roanoke, Ala.; and two nieces.

Funeral service: Friday, March 12, at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Revs. Henry Hampton and Dennis Chambers officiating. Burial: Center Point Baptist Church Cemetery. Mildred Louise Hixson, 84, Flintstone

Mildred Louise Hixson of Flintstone died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, in a local hospital. She was 84.

She was a lifelong resident of north Georgia and a member of Flintstone Baptist Church. Mrs. Hixson was a volunteer for the Chattanooga Red Cross for 15 years and a volunteer worker for many people.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Esther Callahan; brothers, Charles and James C. “Bill” Callahan.

Survivors include husband, Thomas F. Hixson; sisters, Ruth Graham and Barbara Chandler, both of Ringgold; several nieces and nephews.

Ivanell Carlisle, 90, Chickamauga

Ivanell Carlisle of Chickamauga died Monday, March 8, 2010, in a local health care facility. She was 90.

Mrs. Carlisle was a member of Cloud Springs Baptist Church and the Golden Agers Sunday school class, and was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Carlisle, daughter, Martha Brown, and brother, George Bettis.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Smokey Bundy of Chickamauga and Donna and Jimmy Frost of Hobe Sound, Fla.; sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Annette Carlisle of Chickamauga, Dale and Terry Carlisle of Birmingham, Ala., and Gilbert and Debbie Carlisle of Ringgold; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and brother, Frank Bettis of Tyler, Texas.

Randall Alexander Loudermilk, 69, Hixson

Randall Alexander Loudermilk of Hixson, Tenn. died on Monday, March 8, 2010. He was 69.

A native of Ducktown, Tenn., Mr. Loudermilk had been a resident of the Chattanooga area for the past 50 years and was a retired truck driver. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a longtime pool player in the Chattanooga area.

Survivors include his daughters, Susan and Monica Loudermilk; son, Alex Loudermilk; sisters, Cheryl L. Drake and Theresa Burke; two grandchildren.

George Madison “M.G.” Vaughn, 76, LaFayette

George Madison “M.G.” Vaughn of LaFayette died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at a local health care facility. He was 76.

He was a native of Cherokee County, Ala., had lived most of his life in Chattanooga, and had moved to LaFayette in 1993 following his retirement. Mr. Vaughn was a carpenter who had worked for Chris Craft Boats in Chattanooga and also with Currey Contractors. He was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed fishing and camping. He was of the Baptist faith and will be missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Louise Vaughn; parents, William and Lucille Vaughn; and four sisters.

Survivors include five children, Velvie Bailey of Valley Head, Ala., Darlene (Terry) Lumpkin of LaFayette, Rickey (P.J.) Vaughn of Cherokee County, Ala., Steve (Charlotte) Vaughn of Chattanooga and Jan Stout of Chattanooga; two brothers; four sisters; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Sandra Roberson Abney of Ringgold died Monday, March 8, 2010. She was 51.

She was a local artist and was owner of Hollis Gallery and Designers Workshop.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hollis and Alice Jones Roberson.

Survivors include her two children, Keith Abney of Decatur and Alyce Sullivan (Jason) of Ringgold; brother, Carl Roberson of Chattanooga; two grandchildren, Julian and Megan; two nephews, Chris and Russell Roberson; and special friend, Charles Morgan of Ringgold.

Johnnie Dobson of LaFayette died Monday, March 8, 2010. He was 91.

He was a member of the Second Baptist Church of LaFayette. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was a co-owner of Dobbies Super Market with his brother Oliver (Dobbie) Dobson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Emma Brock Dobson; sister Doris Scoggins and brothers Oliver and LeRoy Dobson.

Jay William O’Donnell of Ringgold died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at a local hospital. He was 51.

A native of Virginia, he had been a resident of the Ringgold area for the past 40 years. He was an employee of Deakins Automotive and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Curtis and Daisey O’Donnell and Myrtle Love.

Jeffery “Jeff” Sims, 43, Ringgold

Jeffery “Jeff” Sims of Ringgold died Friday, March 5, 2010. He was 43.

He was a lifelong resident of north Georgia. Jeff was employed with the family business, Sims Sod Farm and Development. He was a graduate and football player of Ringgold High School and Carson-Newman College. During his football career he was part of three national champion football teams, was an all-conference player and made the all-century Team at Carson-Newman College. Jeff was president of the Gridiron Club at Heritage High School. He was an active member of Burning Bush Baptist Church where he was a deacon, a Sunday school leader and a leader in the youth group.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold and Vera Sims, and Marion Foster.

Survivor include his wife, Bonnie Sims; sons, Luke and Noah Sims of Ringgold; daughter, Madison Sims of Ringgold; parents, Bernard and Janet Sims of Ringgold; brother, Kevin (Betsy) Sims of Chickamauga; sister, Cindy (Perry) Parris of Ooltewah; grandmother, Bessie F. Houston of Ringgold; nieces and nephews, Patrick and Alyson Parris, Mason, Grace and Zane Sims.

Irene Taylor, 83, Rossville

Irene Taylor of Rossville died Thursday, March 4, 2010. She was 83.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Mrs. Taylor was a true prayer warrior, who loved the Lord Jesus and her family very much. She was a longtime faithful member of Wallaceville Baptist Church and was the secretary of the Crusaders Sunday school class for many years. She helped start the Ladies’ Prayer Band and was well-known for the card ministry, adding her original poems to each card. Mrs. Taylor served along with her husband, Richard, on the fellowship committee and youth committee. She also worked in Vacation Bible School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “R.P.” Taylor, parents, Ernest and Nettie Cornelius; brothers James Cornelius and Earl Cornelius; sisters Sybil Kelton, Ruby Moore and Eleise Tilley; nieces Ann Tomberella, Ester Pelosi and Wanda Parsons; nephew Wiley Johnson and cousins W. T. and Lillian Hailey.

Helen Lee “Polly” Edgeman, 75, Rock Spring

Helen Lee “Polly” Edgeman of Rock Spring died Thursday, March 4, 2010. She was 75.

She was born August 31, 1934 in Walker County to the late William and Mamie Whaley. She was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church and retired from the Catoosa County School System.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Edgar Edgeman, Ed Johnson and Lloyd Dawkins.

Survivors include her children and spouses, Cyclinda Youngblood of Rock Spring, James T. and Janet Edgeman of Naomi, Patricia and Mark Snodgress of Chickamauga and Wayne and Dana Edgeman of Rock Spring; brother and spouse, W.A. and Polly Whaley of Calif.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W.L. and Cora Mitchell; son Donald Edward Fickey and 13 sisters and brothers.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Gayle Oliver of LaFayette; son, James R. Fickey of LaFayette; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Calvin “Cal” Little, 84, Chattanooga

Calvin “Cal” Little, formerly of Chattanooga, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010. He was 84.

Calvin was born in LaFayette on March 1, 1926. He was a starter for the LaFayette High School football team. After graduating, he served in the United States Army during World War II. After returning home from Germany, Calvin began his life’s occupation as a salesman. He owned and operated several businesses.

Calvin was a member of the Eau Gallie Church of Christ in Melbourne, Fla. During his 20 years in retirement, Calvin was involved in his church as well as helping those in need in his community, and in doing so put others before himself. Calvin was in the Word daily and often encouraged his family to do the same.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Lilly Little, brother James Wallace Little, four stepbrothers and sisters and daughter Debbie Sue Little.

He is survived by his former wife Martha Little, of Spencer, Tenn.; sons, Mike Little of Chattanooga and Scott Little of Palm Bay, Fla.; daughter-in-law Lynn Little of Chattanooga and three grandchildren, Joseph, Joshua and Jessica Little, all of Chattanooga.

Etta B. Clift of Chickamauga died Monday, March 1, 2010. in a local hospital. She was 86.

She was a native of the Mountain View subdivision community in Rossville before moving to Chickamauga. She was a longtime employee and friend of Robert and Al Fehn of Fehn’s Restaurant. Mrs. Clift was a member of Mission Ridge Baptist Church.

She was a lifelong resident of Rossville and a member of the Rossville First Church of the Nazarene. Mrs. Griffith was a local historian as well as a genealogist and author of numerous books that were published throughout her life. She was an honorary member of the Local Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Webster Thomas and Bertha Catlett Brandon; husband, Hubert Griffith and sons Richard and Donald Griffith.

Survivors include sons Tony Griffith of Chattanooga and Bruce Griffith of Rossville; daughter, Ann Hughes of Summerville; brother, Ralph Brandon of Rossville; grandchildren, Daniel Griffith, Jeremiah Griffith, Amber Griffith, Stephanie Hughes, Samantha Hughes, Tuwana Commons, Katrina Murphy and Amy Dunn; also several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Walter Lee Norman, 62, Chickamauga

Walter Lee Norman age 62, of Chickamauga died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010. He was 62.

He was born in Ringgold to the late Faye Bartley and Thelma Nichols Norman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served his country during the Vietnam War. While in the U.S. Army he earned the following medals: Good Conduct, Commendation, National Defense Service, Vietnam Service, Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign, 2 Overseas Bars, Sharp Shooter M-14 and SP 5 grade.

He was a former employee with Velsicol Chemical and A.D.M. Milling Company. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Rossville. He enjoyed spending time with his family and enjoyed going to classic car shows.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Teresa Joyce Morris Norman of Chickamauga; daughter and son-in-law, Vikki and Scott Sizemore and grandchildren, William, Andrew and Elizabeth Sizemore, all of Flintstone.

Sybil Marie Porter, 71, Ringgold

Sybil Marie Porter of Ringgold, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010. She was 71.

She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.

The daughter of the late Carl and Grace Means McDowell, she was preceded in death by her sisters Katherine Hale and Juanita Hale; and brother C. J. McDowell.

Survivors include her husband, James E. Porter; sons, Donnie (Kim) Porter, Randy Porter and Jimmy (Stacey) Porter; brother, Joe McDowell, all of Ringgold; sister, Dorothy Cobb of Ft. Oglethorpe; grandchildren, Nathan Porter, Jarred Porter, Allison Porter, Taylor Jackson, Amanda Jackson and Coulter Porter, and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret Crow Stanfield, 78, Ft. Oglethorpe

Margaret Crow Stanfield of Ft. Oglethorpe died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at her residence. She was 78.

A lifelong resident of the Rossville and Ft. Oglethorpe areas, she was retired from Hutcheson Medical Center as the Director of Volunteer Services.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Stanfield.

Survivors include her children, Jimmy (Cheryl) Murdock of Rock Spring, Karen (Doug) Norris, and Jane (Lebron) Simmons, all of Ringgold; grandchildren, Micah (Stefanie) Murdock, Kara Murdock, Rachel (Blake) Hodge, Brooke Norris and Alanah and Taylor Simmons; great-grandchildren, Gage and Emma Murdock; and several nieces and nephews.
